A 1999/2000 commission for the Empire State Building’s Concourse level initially inspired the Building Materials Series. It looks at the internal patterns and structures of the building materials that make up this landmark building, as well as much of our surroundings in a contemporary architectural landscape. It explores the beauty that exists at
the micro-level in the “mundane” materials that surround us everyday, the internal architecture, which makes up our architecture.
