OriginStoryx2

“Origin Stories - Water” depicts the creation in the cosmos of one earth’s vital and defining natural resources and source of all life on earth, specifically that of water in solar nebula, These animations build upon my series “The Long Goodbye” which pairs processes of birth, death, decay and transformation at two vastly different scales by using an alphabet of particle decay patterns to create paintings, drawings, and animations whose compositions depict the life cycle of stars. Past pieces and exhibits have used this format to explore the birth of hydrocarbons in Nebula, whose bonds in ancient fossilized microscopic sea creatures become the energy we break apart when we burn oil, and the creation of gold in the collision of Neutron Stars. These animations will give an expanded and epic view of water.

I am interested in the prime forces that create resources important to us here on earth. Ultimately neutral, these resources serve as amplifiers for humanity and all we are capable of in both positive and negative ways. How we interact with and utilize them is a choice which is transformative and can be transformed. Looking at the birth of these elements through the lens of the celestial events that created them and the particle decay patterns that underly them, both examples of regeneration and change, highlights this potentially transformative nature of our relationship to these elements. There is also the unifying factor of extra-terrestrial origin. All the stuff that makes us, and the resources we interact with, originates somewhere in the stars. Viewing these elements and ourselves from this perspective can serve as a conceptual reset in how we understand our interconnected place in the universe.
